Take a ride on the train that traveled without tracks. Sit in the Harriett Tubman Lecture Room and hear the stories of runaways who, escaping slavery, rested in secret at Second Baptist Church before crossing the Detroit River into Canada and "Freedom."
What You'll Experience:
Lecture Tours
Begins with participants seated in the Sanctuary for lecture that tells the story at the beginning of Second Baptist Church. Tour takes an hour or more.
Building Tours
Tours through the church's three sections: the original building, annex building, and educational building. Tour takes an hour or less.
Worship Tours
Offered on Sundays, by prior arrangement, for visitors who plan to worship at Second Baptist Church. Tours are immediately after morning service and last approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
***All tours include church history, the viewing of murals and exhibits, and a stop in a basement room known as the Harriett Tubman Lecture Room on the Underground Railroad.
